How to get rid of Stains

Do you need help getting stains out of your clothing? I found these tips in a book by Ellie Kay, "How to Save Money Every Day". These tips will help keep your clothes looking nicer and lasting longer. It tells how to get different types of stains out of your clothing.

  1. Antiperspirant: Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of vinegar and soak a paper towel in the solution. Blot the the stained area with the paper towel. Wash in the hottest temperature safe for that garment.

  2. Ink: Spray with hair spray and blot with a clean cloth. Also, nail polish remover and prewash sprays will work on some ink stains. Just be sure it is safe for the fabric.

  3. Blood: The key is to get it while it's fresh. Rinse well with cold water, then use liquid detergent. Or dampen the stain and sprinkle with unflavored meat tenderizer. Or soak it in lukewarm ammonia water (3 tablespoons per gallon) and rinse.

  4. Candle wax or crayon: Scrape off as much as possible. Place a paper towel both under and on top of the stain and iron it on a low to medium setting. Go over any remaining stain with liquid detergent and water, then rinse and wash as usual.

  5. Catsup: Blot as much as possible. Do not rub, because rubbing solidifies the stain. Rinse or soak in cold water, spray wtih prewash, and wash as usual.

I will post 5 more tips tomorrow on taking stains out of your clothing. It takes a little time to work on a stain but it can save a nice blouse, etc.
